APEC CEO Summit 2013
The Challenge
The website had to serve vastly different audiences simultaneously: global CEOs seeking registration and program details, international media requiring press credentials, government delegations coordinating logistics, and the watching world expecting Indonesia to deliver a flawless hosting experience. Beyond functionality, the site needed to project diplomatic gravitas while honoring Bali as the cultural host. With host sponsors including Pertamina, Astra International, Bank Negara Indonesia, and Indika Energy—plus platinum sponsors like Chevron, Microsoft, and PwC—the site also had to satisfy corporate visibility requirements without becoming cluttered.
Our Solution
We designed a website that balanced operational utility with cultural storytelling. The visual language drew from Balinese iconography—incorporating elements like the Barong (mythical guardian) into the footer—while maintaining the clean professionalism expected of international diplomatic events. Information architecture prioritized the three things delegates needed most: program schedule, speaker profiles, and venue logistics. We also created dedicated sections showcasing Indonesia’s economic narrative and Bali’s geography, positioning the Summit as more than a conference—it was an introduction to Indonesia’s investment potential for 1,000+ decision-makers.
Key Features
- Mega navigation enabling quick access to program, speakers, and venue information
- Real-time program schedule with detailed session breakdowns
- Speaker directory featuring heads of state and global business leaders
- Sponsor visibility hierarchy reflecting partnership tiers
- Culturally-integrated design honoring Bali’s heritage while meeting international standards
- Interactive Bali map helping international delegates navigate the island
- Dedicated “Indonesia” section presenting the host nation’s economic narrative
The APEC CEO Summit 2013 was Asia-Pacific's premier business diplomacy event, marking the 25th annual gathering of APEC leaders. Held in Bali on October 5-7 under the theme "Resilient Asia-Pacific, Engine of Global Growth," the Summit brought together heads of state and 1,000+ global CEOs at a pivotal moment—it was the first APEC for newly-inaugurated leaders including President Xi Jinping (China), Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (Japan, in his comeback), and President Park Geun-hye (Korea). The website needed to serve as both operational hub and Indonesia's digital statement of readiness on the world stage.
