Batch Image Conversion using Automator

Do you happened to have 5-10 PSD (Adobe Photoshop document) design mockup to show your client for fast approval on daily basis? Either to show in JPG or in PNG format and upload/sync them to Dropbox share folder, between you and your clients.

If you do, you probably think that there should be a faster way to do it, rather than waiting 5 to 20 seconds desperately using Save for Web & Devices tool process, even just for one simple PSD document conversion.

By using the built-in Automator in your Mac computer, you can do this easily, painlessly, and blazingly fast.

Open it under /Applications, and choose Workflow on the startup screen. The outline for the process is:

BetterTouchTool, finger swipe customizer for multi touch trackpad and magic mouse

Since Apple introduced multi touch trackpad built-in for laptop line-ups, MultiClutch has been a must installed application for every newer MacBook/MacBook Pro. It’s buggy when recording shortcuts and the installation isn’t the simplest in the world.

Snow Leopard released not long ago, it brings 64 bit closer to our life. And, MultiClutch isn’t 64 bit friendly. Means you have to restart System Preferences to get it run in 32 bit. I don’t really feel nor understand the speed comparison between this geeky bits diferences, but I feel safer to just install 64 bit compatible applications as much as I could.

Snow Leopard 10.6.2 update brings back the infamous Firefox font problem

10.6.2 update for Snow Leopard fixes lots of issues. But not like 10.6.1 update, the 10.6.2 will keep us busy fixing pesky font problem in Firefox (the fix is here if you need it). I just updated the fix tutorial with screenshot, so it’s more newbie friendly I hope.

The interesting part is, they have font fixes list:

  • an issue with font spacing
  • an issue in which some Fonts are missing
  • font duplication issues
  • an issue with some PostScript Type 1 fonts not working properly

Maybe 10.6.3 will be luckier.

Firefox bold font UI problem in Snow Leopard

If your Firefox interface font somehow become bold after Snow Leopard installed (or its updates, 10.6.2 for example), and you also have bold (or italic) fonts in several sites that is using Helvetica, you need to do this small and easy fix.

Open the Font Book application and make sure you don’t have Firefox active.

Find "lucida" (this is the font in Firefox interface), and delete Lucida Grande (Regular) by right click & click "Reveal in Finder", you will have to enter administrator passwords to delete it. And do not worry, you don’t even have to make a backup, because Mac will recreate this font for system purpose.

Crazy Shortcut

This shortcut surely could break my left hand’s fingers!

2 Most Annoying Things in Mac OS X

I like Mac, great for work, and everyday use. But sadly, I found 2 things that annoys me a lot, especially while I’m working. Here goes …

Finder is Application

Finder always treated as an ordinary application instead of OS shell. I often find myself jeopardized in  + tab situation, because it’s still have the Finder icon (even though there is no Finder Window that running at the moment).

Quick Look window size

When you have a folder filled with the last night party photos (landscape and portrait), you’ll notice when you’re in Quick Look mode browsing the photos, the Quick Look’s window size is always the same (depends on the 1st item invoked). It should be auto resized depends on each items, so that we don’t have to have something like this:

Do you have other annoying things about the mac?

Amazing unique and creative music video using Mac OS environment

I watched all Dennis Liu’s works moments a go. And she’s really talented director. I admired her works, very creative and original. Sometimes it can be funny too.

Today, I just found out that she made a music video The Bird and the Bee’s Again & Again using Mac OS environment.

You’ll seeing Photo Booth, lots of TextEdit and Stickies. Also Adobe Photoshop, iPhoto, amazing use of fast user switch, Widgets, Quick look. Apple really should buy this video and use it on their ad or play it on their stores all day long, forever loop. Hah!

Apple Mail Tweak Tip

After almost two years using the Apple Mail on regular basis (I got it running the whole time), I have some tips for everyone to make this Mac OS’s built-in email client more fun, effective and productive to use.

CandyBar 3 is Sweet, but ...

I love Panic’s CandyBar 3 (who doesn’t?)! This icon customizer and organizer is simply amazing. It’s beautiful, unique, and have break through interface. On version 3, they pushed it further more! This Leopard-only application has Iconfactory’s Pixadex built right in and it can organize your Docks too.

Since the release and the not-so-good first impression buying experience, I use CandyBar 3 application obviously to organize all of the great icons that I found on Iconfactory and MacThemes’s Releases & Update section.
